MDF for woodworking

MDF is worth comparing for painted interior cabinet parts and panels. Select the actual product for the job rather than assuming that every panel sold as MDF performs alike.

What to know about mdf

Applications
Roseburg lists cabinetry, furniture, displays, and lamination among its standard Medite MDF applications.
Variants
The manufacturer also distinguishes premium products with improved strength for critical uses.
Specification
Dimensions and performance depend on the supplied product; a generic MDF label is not a complete specification.

Where it fits in a project

Consider it for painted cabinet components, then check the product documentation for thickness, fasteners, exposure, and support requirements. Do not assume that a door panel and a loaded shelf need the same design.

Before you buy

Plan the finish before the final cut

Check the selected panel and coating manufacturers’ preparation instructions. Include an edge in the sample so you can assess it alongside the face.

Compare alternatives

Compare the material and the construction together. These are alternatives to investigate, not interchangeable substitutes.
